Hey y’all! I want to discuss a topic, which might be hard for some women (and men for that matter) to fully believe in. Loving yourself where you are for who you are! It is something that, quite honestly, I have to work harder on some days than others. I feel like especially now there are so many good books, articles and people that advocate for this important message. Love yourself, no matter the “flaws” that you see or feel! I am not speaking about being conceited or vein, more so genuinely loving yourself like you love the family/friends in your life. Try to see the beauty of your body and soul and what it does for you every single day. This is such a small personal example, but I used to absolutely hate how my skin looked. It is very fair and you can see ALL my veins in their very bold glory. My childhood best friend could (and still can) tan so easily and had the prettiest bronze skin! I used to try to tan and get color in the summer when that does not come natural to me. I burn before I can tan and I definitely don’t get dark easily. I am just now, in my 31 years of life, starting to appreciate the fact that I am different and don’t have the beautiful olive skin like my sweet husband and childhood gal pal. I am learning to love myself and who I am right in this moment. You might be trying to work out, quit soda, or become a healthier you in some way or another but remember to love yourself in the journey. If you currently love yourself completely for who you are right now you deserve a huge virtual hug! I am genuinely so happy for you.
I want Laura’s Boutique to truly be a space where you feel comfortable in your skin and are reminded that who you are is beautiful and definitely not ordinary. We all have “flaws” whether they exist in our minds or are scars from real life happening. In each dressing room I have “Be Your Beautiful Self” and as cheesy as that may sound, I want that to really ring true for YOU. Fashion is so much more than the clothes you put on your body. Yes, fabulous, trendy clothes are fun and exciting but you need to love yourself from the inside out. Otherwise, beautiful clothes really do nothing for you. I was listening to Jen Hatmaker’s podcast and she had a guest (honestly can’t remember who it was) but she was speaking on how it really is a societal issue. From a woman’s perspective most women do not love themselves near enough. I think now is the time to change that. Love yourself, you are worth it, sweet friend and know that I am right there with you working on it day by day. If you need encouragement or want to chat about this topic, you know where to find me! Let’s choose to live our best lives.
Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Isaiah 64:8 “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
Hello to all my fellow fashionistas!
I want to discuss a few ways on how to step out of your personal “box” and try different trends or styles you could come to love! With that being said, everyone has a unique sense of style. Personally, that is what I love about the fashion industry.
I want to be very clear: in my retail experience, I never want to make someone feel uncomfortable. I strive for the customer I am helping to feel good and confident in the clothing they choose to purchase from Laura’s. With that being said, stepping out of your box by your choosing can be fun and liberating. The subject of clothing and retail in general is not necessarily about being vain, but more so, if you feel confident in what you are wearing and how you present yourself it can change your world and outlook on life. (Although let’s be real, sometimes sweats/comfy clothes are necessary for mental health too!) No matter your budget, you should feel comfortable with the items in your closet.
Let’s get this party started! Below are a few ideas.
Sometimes change can feel good. It may be something small or it may be something large, but it could potentially spark something inside of you. New adventures, more confidence, more risks… the possibilities are endless. My final piece of advice: please try on before making any purchases for a new trend or style. If purchasing online, please be familiar with return policies. Do not add anything to your wardrobe that you do not absolutely love. Good luck in your search for fun, fashionable, and new!
Until next time,
Hi all! Happy 2018! We hope your year is off to a fabulous start.
Let’s talk about jewelry and the importance of adding accessories with your favorite outfit. Jewelry is such a personal thing, but I can’t stress the importance of it enough. Whether you like simple, elegant pieces that are more on the dainty side OR big, bold pieces that are more on the chunky side every single woman needs to add a touch of something she loves. Any fashionable outfit will not feel complete or polished without an added touch of personality. Jewelry does that! Jewelry makes the statement for you.
Let’s look at it from another perspective: decorating a house. No matter how much “stuff” you have; even if you tend to go more minimal with the “things” in your life you will want to add texture or pictures that make it feel like a home. Adding jewelry to your wardrobe is like personalizing the house that you live in. It adds an element of sophistication.
Even if you purchased the most expensive outfit at the very top of your budget, it wouldn’t feel or look complete without the gorgeous accessories. Wearing jewelry is all about expressing yourself. Think quality over quantity. Not necessarily having an abundance of jewelry, but rather owning pieces that really speak to you and make you feel happy. Also, just a side note: when famous actresses/women walk the red carpet they explain not only their wardrobe designers, but jewelry as well!
I personally like a mixture of classic and funky, but each individual person is different. What is your style? Is it a mix? Does it depend on your mood? Classic always? Clothes are obviously a VERY important aspect of our boutique, but the jewelry is just as important. Until the next fashionable topic. 😉
I want to talk a little about personal shopping, more specifically what this means in Laura’s Boutique. With Fall just around the corner, you want to assess your current wardrobe and see what you might need to add in order to punch up your look and enhance your choices. When you are building out your fall wardrobe, you want to have several basics as well as some fun accessories that will take you from casual to dressy.
It is handy to have a couple of good basic pairs of jeans in indigo and black. You also want to find a good basic pant that can be worn with flats or heels. Black usually works with everything. Buy a pant that fits well and looks flattering. Shorter women need a smaller leg, whereas a woman 5’5″ or over can wear a skinny jean to a wide leg. All pant leg widths are in, so you can go with what you feel looks best on you and feels comfortable.
Then, add tops you love – all sorts of new styles are fun for Fall this year and you can find a look you love in blouses, tunics, dusters, cardigans…etc.
When buying tops and tunics look at the following fits:
Wide leg pants need a closer fitted top. Its OK to wear any length but pay attention to your proportions. Shorter women, or those under 5’5″, can wear smaller legged jeans paired with long or short tops fitting close to the body. Women of average height and tall women can wear small legs with fuller tops or more fitted tops.
Fun for Fall are patterned or embellished jeans! If you have one trendy item, you should splurge on a pair of embellished jeans. Fall is showing tears, patches, leopard cuffs, rhinestones, and embroidery on these classic comfy items.
When wearing full legged pants you always want to wear a more fitted blouse, top or tunic. But, keep in mind when wearing full legs and full tops (no matter the tops length) it makes one look heavier. Since NO one wants to look bigger than they are – make sure you love the look and ask a trusted friend if it is a good look for you!
So, what about patterns? There are some great ones out for the Fall! Buffalo checks, small checks, stripes of all sizes, velvet, suede, suede feel, denim, cotton, jersey are some of this falls must have fabrications and looks. Even florals which we usually think of as being just for spring and summer are IN! Florals have a great soft and romantic look this season – and embroidery and beading is in with a bohemian and vintage feel.
It’s great to add a jacket in the mix and you have lots of fun choices – whether its frayed denim, soft camo, classic denim, or a tailored look. And vests are in as well, with lots of styles to choose from – leightweight puffers, reversible, prints, ethnic and bohemian looks – are all great choices.
Cardigans and long dusters can enhance your look as well as work to keep you comfortable. Choose from both solids and prints. Lightweight is always easier to wear because layering is more comfortable. Also, it makes one look smaller without as much bulk. Light weight, boxy sweaters in light colors add some pizazz to any pant.
Blouses have made a comeback in the last 2 years – in many styles including buttondowns and slipovers. Lots of prints are available as well.
Finally, accessories are a great way to enhance any look. Long pieces worn with a tunic or duster or chunky, short statement pieces are great ways to add your own style and make a statement. Be sure when you buy a piece – no matter the cost – to buy so it can he worn with lots of pieces of your wardrobe. And add to any outfit with a beautiful scarf. This Fall scarves are a must have!

It is so exciting to see the lines we love and see the trends for the upcoming fall season. The idea of designing something so far ahead of time is just simply amazing. Lots of planning and prepping have to go into designing these great quality lines!
We buy our merchandise seasons ahead of time to ensure we get the items from the manufacturer.
One big trend that we saw over and over again was velvet. VELVET for FALL 2017! We are so excited. Velvet dusters in all colors, touches of velvet on collars, and velvet on blouses.
We are also seeing tops and blouses becoming a little shorter. Fringe and vests are still a trend as well. Laura’s is all about show-stopping shopping with style!
